It took me nearly 20 minutes to read this passage. There are a number of stories in this passage; all of them about Isaac’s life. Chapter 24 is the last exercise of faith recorded regarding Abraham. He sends his servant on a mission to get a bride for Isaac. Abraham must have spent some time discussing this with God because he offers the servant only one plan. There is no plan B. When the servant questions Abraham’s plan the old man of faith doesn’t say, “Well if that happens you need to ……”. Only one plan. From our point of view that doesn’t make much sense. When dealing with people there should always be multiple plans in place to address the contingencies that will arise because of people’s quirks. But Abraham expresses his faith in God’s sovereignty by offering only one plan.
