It took me 15 minutes to read this passage. God takes three significant steps in the passage to help Israel understand the Law that is being presented to them.
1. God explains how to apply the 10 Commandments to their lives. Immediately after speaking the foundation of the Law to all the people God speaks to Moses and gives him examples to pass on to the people of how these Laws apply to their lives.
2. God repeats his promise to provide Israel and inheritance, and calls on them to get ready to do their part in fulfilling God’s promise.
3. God shows his glory to the 74 leaders of Israel. God includes Nadab and Abihu the sons of Aaron in that group. Not only does God reveal himself, in some manner that we don’t fully understand, but he also dines with them. God displays his desire to be known by the people of Israel by making a personal connection with the leaders of Israel.
