Zechariah was given a vision that included two olive trees. The prophet sought to understand what their presence meant but God did not clearly reveal to him who they are. In 4:14 the angel referred to them as God’s two anointed ones. But that does not make clear to me their significance. I know that one of God’s anointed is Jesus. But who would be the other? David? Melchezedek? Aaron? All of these men, and many others, were anointed for God’s work. This may be one of the mysteries of God that we may never fully understand this side of eternity.
