We people have an uncanny ability to justify almost anything in our own eyes. In the first two chapters of this minor prophet God identifies three areas where ancient Israel justified evil in front of God. When they gave God tarnished offerings, when they withheld the good that they had promised to God, and when the rejected their marriage covenants. How could they expect to be real people of God when they acted in that manner? They couldn’t. I know that these same topics are struggles that many Christians encounter today as well. We need to encourage one another to avoid the same pitfalls that the ancient believers justified in their hearts.
It took me about 7 minutes to read this passage.
