It took me about 9 minutes to read this passage. God is praised by the heavens as his judgment is poured out on those who have rejected him. These are not songs celebrating the punishment of the guilty, but the righteousness of our holy and just God. The judgment is focused on those satanic powers who lead the nations astray, and because of that judgment God is declared right and powerful. God is praised because there was nothing that Satan’s forces could throw at God’s plans that ever succeeded. However, even with all of this celebration I believe there was a very somber atmosphere around the books that God reviews at the final judgment. It will be a sad time because the people who stubbornly refused to receive God’s free gift of grace will understand that they are to be separated from God’s presence. God had created those people so that he could know them intimately for eternity, but they believed the lies. I believe it will be with great sadness that God will pronounce the final guilty verdict on all of those whose names are not written in the book of life.
