By what standard do we evaluate our progress? With whom do we compare our accomplishments? We will always face the temptations to compare ourselves to other people. But God doesn’t do that. Those outside of faith in Jesus are compared to the life that he lived and are always found falling short of God’s glory. But for those of us who are living in faith in Jesus we are granted Jesus’ righteousness. When God looks at us he compares us with Jesus and we match up with his life on every point. Paul had room to boast about his earthly inheritance as a basis for his relationship with God. But Paul focused instead on his weaknesses, his inabilities, his frailty. We should do the same.
