Chapter 13 begins with David’s plans to bring the ark of the covenant to be near him. In verse 3 he points out that king Saul had “ignored” the ark while he ruled. Apparently when God would no longer speak to Saul the king decided to treat God the same way. Saul gave God the silent treatment rather than seeking a way to restore his relationship with Israel’s ruler. David was seeking to live his life, and rule Israel, from a point of submission to God. Which is an excellent example for any modern ruler to follow.
