Ezekiel was going about his daily business when some of the elders in exile came up to him asking to inquire of the LORD. I wonder if God let them speak their mind before he spoke to Ezekiel? The physical eyes of the prophet saw men of righteousness but the eyes of the Spirit of God saw men of idolatry. It really doesn’t matter if their idols were figurines or dollars and cents they had decided in their hearts to serve something else and give God second place. But there is a problem with that arrangement: God determines his place of priority in our lives and it is not second place. Second place is for those who can’t fulfill our every need. Second place is for those who aren’t attentive to people, and who just sit around and soak up the adoration. God does not belong in second place. I need to be reminded of that every so often.
It took me about 15 minutes to read this passage.
