It took me about 20 minutes to read this passage, but I kept getting interrupted. Something that I had read in chapter 2 numerous times before but never noticed was how surprising the events on that Pentecost were to everyone. Jesus had commanded the apostles to stay in Jerusalem until they were baptized in the Holy Spirit. But Jesus didn’t them give any indication as to how long they would have to wait. So they spent their days of waiting in prayer and study of the scripture. When Pentecost came Jesus surprised them all by sending a loud wind to shake the word. I wonder if that sound like a wind was the physical manifestation of the Holy Spirit’s arrival or the demonic spirit’s fleeing? Jesus’ timing was perfect, even if it was unexpected.
